Do you have a story about Estepa that deserves to be told? The Town Council has opened the first “Historias de Estepa” Ideas Competition, seeking ten stories linked to the municipality’s intangible cultural heritage to develop into short documentary projects.
The initiative forms part of Historias de Estepa. A community documentary creation laboratory for preserving intangible heritage, organised by the Town Council with the Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media.
What kinds of stories are sought
Oral history, traditional trades, family stories, symbolic spaces, urban transformations, traditions, everyday episodes, community ties or journeys away and back. Anyone over 16 with a connection to Estepa through residence, family origins, work or participation in town life may enter, alone or with one co-author. Minors need permission from their guardians.
Each proposal must be submitted in a document of no more than three pages, describing the idea, its protagonists, the place in Estepa to which it relates and its relevance. Send it to historiasdeestepa@gmail.com before 11.59 pm on 18 October.
From paper to filming
A technical committee will announce the ten selected ideas on 22 October. Their authors will receive online training in documentary storytelling, personal archives, the ethics of testimony and basic recording, provisionally between 26 and 30 October, plus an in-person session.
At the end of the process, two stories will be chosen, one devoted to Estepa’s women. They will be filmed as shorts during the Documentary Creation Challenge in November in Estepa.
