Osuna Town Council and the municipality’s schools have agreed a calendar of activities on equality and preventing gender-based violence for the coming months. They did so at a new meeting of the Municipal Coeducation Commission, chaired by Equality councillor Mª Carmen Berraquero, with Education councillor Ana Lebrón also attending.
“We wanted to share the full planned programme with schools to organise activities, establish a timetable and make participation easier”, explained Berraquero, who also highlighted proposals contributed by the schools themselves.
Three areas of work
- “IDEA Joven por la Igualdad” competition, supported by the Instituto de las Mujeres and FEMP. It is aimed at students from secondary school through university, who can submit projects in their preferred format. “It is especially important to work with them to challenge the misleading messages and denial of gender-based violence they receive through social media”, the councillor said.
- 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with activities adapted to each school stage.
- Equal play and leisure campaign in December, aimed at nursery and primary schools, to encourage choosing toys without gender stereotypes.
School and family
Berraquero stressed that education in equality goes beyond classrooms: “As fathers and mothers, we are the mirror in which our children see themselves”.
The meeting included CEIP Rodríguez Marín, CEIP María Auxiliadora, CEIP Nuestra Señora de Fátima, Escuelas Profesionales Sagrada Familia, Colegio Santa Ángela, CEEE Nuestra Señora de la Merced, CEI Puerta de Osuna, CEPER Clara Campoamor, IES Francisco Rodríguez Marín and IES Sierra Sur.
The commission was established in March 2026 and brings together the Town Council, schools and families.
